SOUND BYTE: Worth Repeating Dolly Parton
I ADORE Dolly Parton, I have since I was a kid. I have admired her willingness to dream, strength, wit, beauty, backwoods brilliance & ability underneath it all to be one of the the greatest artists of ALL time, she’s the “Iron Butterfly”. Funny when I listen to Stevie Wonder I feel like he’s one of the only people that can truly see & when I listen to Dolly I feel like she’s the realist person on the planet. I’ve always had a soft spot for her, Charo & Pamela Anderson… on the surface you see one thing but there is something so powerful when you dig deeper & as much work as they did to themselves on the outside it’s their truth… their idea of beauty & they could give a rat’s ass what you think… FAB! Her Dollyisms also KILL me, she’s just too dang MUCH so quick & fun-NY! (Check out my flickr to see all the Broads that inspire me)
I think I also love her because I’m a TOTAL Drag Queen myself. By day I’m a complete tomboy with my hat backwards, snap shirts, my boy shorts & Adidas but at night I paint that dog on & I strut like there’s always a runway, been doing that since I was a kid, I’d wear frilly dresses with striped tube socks… HA shut up! My all time favourite thing about Dolly is her first album, “Just Because I’m A Woman”. It stands up there as one of my top 5 albums of all time. It’s such a raw & visceral account of life as a woman as Dolly saw it & it truly has been like my bible. Now I’ve never read the bible but when I want answers about life, love, career, dreams & what it truly is like to be a Woman that’s my go to source. There’s always a Dolly song to narrate exactly whatever ails or invigorates you. If you have a daughter or just want to give the gift of daily inspiration from Dame Dolly to the most important Woman in your life I implore you to buy this album!
I get so inspired when I think of the sheer brilliance of this album at the time it was released & recorded she boldly sung of taboo & controversial subject matters… screw the boobs the Woman has the biggest rocky mountain oysters in the industry! She has songs about helping her sister who’s in an abusive relationship, never giving up on love because you have to live & learn til you find it, how to deal with a cheating lover, going to a bridge where she & her lover met feeling abandoned & carrying his child the rash decision that she had to make that would change the course of all 3 of their lives forever & then there’s my FAVOURITE…. “False Eyelashes” where she speaks with such transparency of all she’s given up to be where she is & she still is nowhere near reaching her goal yet so she hustles as people back home assume she has it all. If there is anything that summed up the beginning of this year for me, that was definitely it! I wore my false eyelashes in the episode & although they didn’t show in detail how much I adore this Woman & owe her my life she’s been such an inspiration I think the excitement alone of my being there asked to cook her recipes could never be contained! Oh speaking about excitement check out which RAD Kitchen babe just named yours truly a “Bitchin’ Babe“?
I will post later in full detail of last night’s episode as soon as I get the pics from the Network. Once again I had a BLAST cooking with my girl Brookie P for my FAVE girl Dolly P. & I can’t thank the Lane Twins enough for hiring me to cook her recipes for her friends. The book is FAB! You can order it here proceeds benefit Dolly’s Imagination Library (she’s so philanthropic, the Woman does it ALL… FAB!). Til I can write that post have a listen to my all time fave Dolly tune “False Eyelashes” from the groundbreaking album Just Because I’m A Woman & order a copy for the most important Woman in your life, you & share it with the special Women in your life also ♥
